February 11-20, 2011

Detroit Lakes, Minnesota is home to Polar Fest - a celebration and embracing of the winter season.

Lots of fun for the entire family is planned for 2011 including cross country skiing, family ice skating, turkey bowling, snowmobile races, golfing on Detroit Lake, 5K Freeze Your Buns run, live theatre performances, the spectacular fireworks at the city beach and Polaritaville Dance.

Festival of Birds
Celebrate the spring migration of birds in the transition zone of tall grass prairie, northern hardwood, and boreal forest. Tremendous variety of species, over 170 sighted.


June
Street Faire at the Lakes
June 3 and 4 in downtown Detroit Lakes. It's six blocks of art, music, entertainment and food. Our Street Faire at Detroit Lakes, Minnesota has it all. One hundred and twenty-five juried artists set up their paintings, sculptures, pottery, jewelry and other first class art along Washington Avenue. Musicians stroll the sidewalks. Bands perform from a main stage, free to attendees.

There's something for everyone. Your children will love the balloons, having their faces painted and riding on the carnival rides. You can mellow out with classic folk music or soothing Bluegrass. Or, put on your dancing shoes for the Friday night street dance.

Arts & Crafts In The Park

Ecuadorian rhythms float over the water and through the oaks and pines. It's not your typical Art in the Park music, but at Detroit Lakes it's a perfect blend. The annual event, set for July 24, 2011, is held at City Park next to Detroit Lake. Over 100 booths are set up under the shady trees in the park. You'll find treasures of all sorts - from jewelry and pottery to furniture and fabric goods.

WE Fest
Annual country music fest at the scenic Soo Pass Ranch. Example lineup includes Keith Urban, Alan Jackson, Toby Keith, Carrie Underwood, Trace Adkins, Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson, and many other Superstar Power artists. The artists change from year to year. Over 8000 campsites clean and well-lit.

Annual amateur golf tournament.

Annual Dick Beardsley Half Marathon & 5K
Half marathon, 5K run/walk as well as Kids 1K for youth 12 and under. Spaghetti feed Friday evening with guest marathoner and Dick Beardsley.
